colour fields

Since 2020, I have kept a daily visual diary, recording dreams, emotions and reflections through spontaneous pastel drawings. Made in the quiet moments before the day begins, these Colour Fields inhabit the space between the everyday and the unknown, moving across the boundaries of the rational and the felt.

Working quickly with soft pastel, I layer and rub pigment directly into the paper with my fingers, allowing each image to emerge through touch rather than intention. Words accompany every drawing. Sometimes they lead the image; sometimes they arrive afterwards, forming a quiet dialogue between colour and language.

Each drawing captures something sensed rather than planned. Seen individually, they are fleeting; together they reveal patterns and relationships that only become visible over time. They have become a way of noticing the hidden grammars that shape experience before they can be fully understood.

Many of the ideas that later emerge in my handmade paper, sculpture and installation first appear here. Colour Fields remind me that understanding rarely arrives all at once. It accumulates slowly, through sustained attention.
